Occlusion:
The normal relationship of the upper and lower teeth when the jaws are closed.
Occlusal radiograph:
This is the only x-ray that is taken without a precision x-ray holder. You are asked to bite on the x-ray film and the top of the x-ray machine is positioned over maxillary occlusal x-ray or under your chin for mandibular occlusal film. See page
Odontology:
A classical term for dentistry.
OMD:
Occluso-Muscular Disorder.
Over probably 70 to 80 percent of people suffer of OMD. They have jaw pain. OMD means a diagnosis of muscle pain caused by a malocclusion or bad bite. Having your mouth close with your jaw joints out of alignment requires constant posturing of the jaw muscles and those muscles can become chronically spastic. The treatment for this problem is directed at relaxing the muscles and then correcting the occlusion if necessary.
Onlay:
This is a tooth restoration that covers the entire biting surface. You have the choice between gold or porcelain. It serves to protect the tooth from breakage should the cavity or old filling to be too large. See page
Open bite:
A malocclusion in which the teeth do not close or come together in the front of your mouth.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon:
A dental specialist who manages the diagnosis & surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and deformities of the mouth and supporting structures. See page

Surgical procedures on the mouth including extractions, removal of cysts or tumors and repair of fractured jaws.
Orthodontics:
The treatment performed to correcct your bite and make your smile look wonderful. See page
Orthodontist:
A dentist who has been specially trained to do orthodontics.
Osseointegration:
It implies that a contact is established without interposition of non-bone tissue between normal remodeled bone and an implant entailing a sustained transfer and distribution fo load from the implant to and within the bone tissue. See page
Osteoplasty:
Is the surgical procedure that modifies the configuration of bone.
Osteotomy:
Surgical cutting of the bone
Overbite:
Malocclusion in which the upper teeth extend abnormally far over the lower teeth.
Overdenture:
Denture that fits over residual roots or dental implants. See page
