Removable denture
A removable prosthesis is also known as a partial or complete denture.
It can be taken out of the mouth for daily cleaning. This denture is retained in the mouth by a sophisticated bar system and is secured to the dental implants with screws.
The removal denture is indicated to people who don't have the supporting strength of the remaining teeth in the oral cavity for a fixed bridge.
They also have an advantage as the removable prosthesis is less expensive than the fixed prosthesis.
The position of the removable partial prosthesis is stabilized in the oral cavity by a system of precision attachments to the abutment of natural teeth.
These attachments consist of precision tooled metal components which fit into each other in order to assure stability of the prosthesis.
One of these attachments is known as the male part and the other as the female part.
There are several types of precision attachments but the function is usually the same.
Their function is to retain the prosthesis in the perfect position on the bar.
