Saliva:

Is a clear lubricating fluid in the mouth containing: water, enzymes, bacteria, mucus, viruses, blood cells and undigested food particles.

Sagittal plane:
The longitudinal vertical plane that devides the mouth into two halves (left and right).

Scaling:

This is the removal of plaque, calculus and stain from the teeth.

Sealants:
Is a protective coating painted into the grooves on the biting surface of back teeth susceptible to decay. It prevents cavities and lasts for an average of seven years. It can be easily placed with no discomfort.

Second Molar:

The teeth just behind the first. These teeth also have a level surface with four cuspals.

Secondary Teeth:
Your permanent teeth. It is the second group of teeth to come in.

Sensitivity:
Is a discomfort in a tooth caused by touch, sweet, hot, cold, biting pressure or releasing pressure. Causes differ according to the symptoms. Sometimes it passes instantly - other times the discomfort lingers for minutes or hours after the stimulation.

Separator:

A plastic or metal part which the orthodontist uses to create space between your teeth for bands.

Sterilization:

Means the complete elimination of microbial viability. Caution must be exercised to insure the preservation or the integrity and properties of the implant.

Submerged Implant:
This is an endosseous implant whith a removable head and neck to permit healing and maturation of osteotomy and allow intra-implant trabeculation isolated from the oral cavity without permucosal opening.

Subperiosteal Implant:
Which is a framework specifically fabricated to fit the supporting areas of the mandible or maxilla with permucosal extensions for support and attachment of the prosthesis. This framework consists of permucosal extensions with or without connecting bars and struts.
